UK Sportshall Champions
What an eventful day, after about 45 minutes into the programme they had to stop all track events due to athletes slipping and fall over, due to the surface of the floor. So the competition carried on by everyone doing field events.
We only had u15 girls team representing Derbyshire and they didn't let us down, the team was: Yasmin Spencer, Natasha Illingworth, Paige Collings, Sarah Tomlinson all from Chesterfield A.C Jodie Wills, Abbie Langley and Kelly-Jay Payling from Amber Valley A.C.
I would like top say congratulation to Sarah for winning gold in speedbounce, congratulation to Yasmin who won gold in shot putt and she also won bronze for coming 3rd in the all-rounder competition. Best of all a big congratulation to the whole team who came home with gold and the trophy for winning the u15 girls compertition and if what ive been told is right its the first time in 25 years that any derbyshire team have ever won the uk sportshall final. What a way to go out aswell because for some of the team this was there last sportshall competition, they are Yasmin, Sarah, Natasha, Jodie and Abbie. So we wish you all goodluck and goodbye from sportshall Athletics.
We also had a individual competiter who got through in his own rights for shot putt, his name is Tom Bridge from Amber Valley A.C , So well done for getting through to the uk finals and congratulation for winning gold in the u13 boys shot putt.
A big thankyou goes to Nigel Smith, Trevor Jolly, Don Spencer and Neil Collings for being Officials on the day and Judy Payling/ Nigel Smith for being Team Manager.

Chesterfield DAC on the move
In the year that Chesterfield & District AC will celebrate its 30th anniversary, the Club is to move its summer HQ from Queen's Park Annexe athletic track, where it started, to a new floodlit all-weather facility at Tupton Hall School, Station New Rd, Tupton, S42 6LG, commencing with the first outdoor training session on Tuesday 1 April at 6.30pm. Whilst not up to full competition standard, the track will be a major improvement on the forty-five year old Annexe which is prone to flooding after heavy rain. Previous Monday Academy sessions will be discontinued as this group will be catered for on Tuesday and Thursday nights. The club will continue to honour its club/schools link commitments to the Chesterfield Schools' Sports Partnership, and will be looking to enter into a similar arrangement with the equivalent NE Derbyshire group. The club expects to form a strong working relationship with Tupton Hall, which has Sports College status and is the largest secondary school by roll number in the County. 5/3/08

Derbyshire Sportshall (Match 1)
A very close Match with Derby AC just edging Chesterfield for the overall victory. There is a slight change to the provisional results announced at the Sportshall. A slight glitch in the U11 boys initial results caused a miscalculation on the day. This has now been rectified and the full results are now available.
The Sportshall has undertaken a new format and the association would like to thank all Team Managers and Officials for dealing with the transformation very well and special thanks to Chesterfield DAC for preparing and hosting the event to a high standard. 8/10/07
Derbyshire Sportshall
Another season of Sportshall is upon us. Local Clubs will compete against each other over the course of 6 matches all held in Chesterfield. Aswell as local pride Clubs will be competing for age group titles and the overall championship which Derby AC will be defending.
Athletes will then fly the flag for Derbyshire at the Regional finals against Counties from the East Midlands. Since the formation of our league we have succeeded each year to have at least one age group represent the East Midlands region at the National Finals. Our most successful season (2005) involved the U13 Girls age group finishing in an outstanding 3rd place in the UK. The following season our U15 Girls were involved in one of the closest finishes known in Sportshall. An excellent 4th place with only 15 points separating 1st from 4th. We are hoping to keep our success rolling with at least one age group qualifying for the Nationals.
See you all on Sunday for a 11am start. Programme. Good luck to all Clubs and athletes. 6/10/07

Sport England Clubmark
---
Amber Valley Athletic Club has become the first athletics club in Derbyshire to be awarded the Sport England Clubmark.
The accreditation caps a hugely successful last twelve months that has seen the club move to its new base and track at the Rutland Sports Park, Ilkeston, a membership that has almost doubled, with the prospect of being able to field teams in leagues across all age groups, not just juniors.
Being awarded Clubmark means that the club has been recognised as a safe, effective and friendly place for young people to participate in athletics.
To gain accreditation, club officers, primarily club treasurer Jane Rogers, have completed the evidence file, writing, refining and developing policies covering such issues as welfare, coaching, competition, training, volunteer management, equity and club development. 15/2/07

Identifying, selecting and developing talented athletes-what's your role as a coach?
The ability of a coach at any level to identify potentially talented individuals is crucial. Talent Identification, Selection and Development are being undertaken with varying degrees of sophistication right across the sporting landscape. Clearly, coaches’ perspectives on how we recognise talented individuals varies. If you are a coach working with precocious, talented athletes/players then this conference is for you. more info(pdf). 5/2/07

Sportshall Success
---
Meres Leisure Centre, Grantham was the stage for the 2007 Regional Finals, with Counties from Lincs, Notts, Northants and Derbyshire contending for the East Midlands title and progressing to the National Finals in Birmingham.
It was an extremely successful day for Derbyshire with three age groups crowned East Midlands Champions and qualifying for the UK National Final.
It was no easy ride and the competition was very stiff indeed. Watching the competition unfold before our eyes it was impossible to predict the winners and the delight and relief was evident as we were declared the winners.
A count of 50 medals for Derbyshire was very pleasing and a great credit to our teams. The unfortunate age group not to qualify was the U13 Boys who collectively won more medals than our winning age groups (strange but true).
Added to our team success was the individual all round athletes (U15's) as Emma Komocki retained the crown she won last year winning 146 points out of a possible 150. Claudia Rogers claimed bronze just 1 point behind 2nd place.
The U15 Boys crown went to Derbyshires Jordan Martin in a very close contest which saw Derbyshire athletes Daniel Burdett and Tom Kitchen claim equal 2nd just 1 point behind Jordan.
U13 Boy Michael Bosworth won a hat-trick of Golds as did U13G Suzie Palmer.
The full results should be available soon from the official Sportshall web site.
Finally, Derbyshire would like to thank all the athletes, supportive parents, Nigel Smith, Chloe Smith, Trevor Jolly and Don Spencer (officials), Judy Payling, Alastair Cook, Ben Mourbey (Team Managers) for supporting your County and helping Derbyshire be successful. 4/2/04
Well Done Derbyshire!
International Recognition for Alex
---
Alexandra Turner of Amber Valley AC has been selected to represent England in the Celtic Cup indoor match in Cardiff against Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland on 3rd February as part of the England U20 squad. In 2006 as an U15 Alex was AAA indoor and outdoor champion as well as English Schools champion.
Last weekend on her U17 debut Alex won the North of England indoor championships with the UK's fastest indoor 800m time so far this year for any U17 or U20 female athlete.
The Celtic Cup match marks Alex's debut at international level and she becomes the 3rd young Amber Valley athlete to gain international selection.
Well done Alex and we wish you all the best on your international debut. 31/1/07

XC Mini League - Change of Venue
---
The third and final fixture of the Derbyshire Cross Country Mini League for young athletes is on 10th February. Please note the change of venue from Charles Hill playing fields, Loscoe, to the Rutland Sports Park, Ilkeston. This is due to heavy waterlogging at the original venue.
Races start at 11am with the U11's followed by U13's, then U15's. Presentations of individual medals and the overall team trophy will be made as soon after the last race as possible. Team managers must be aware that all runners must be aged at least 9 years on the day to comply with insurance requirements.
Athletes, parents and team managers are advised to check this website in the run-up to the event incase of any last minute changes due to the weather. 30/1/07
