Young Athletes Inter-Counties 2007
Once again Derbyshire have excelled in this competition for the young age groups of U13/U15. Many fine performances and a great team effort ensured runners-up spot for the 5th time in succession.
Tom Bridge collected the U13B field Athlete of the Match award for his excellent performance in the shot. U13G Yasmin Miller can count herself unfortunate not to collect the track award in the U13G age group as can Yasmin Spencer after winning the U15G shot by well over 2mts from her nearest rival.
A high standard event and with Derbyshire continuing to push the might of Warwickshire all the way it proves we have enough young talent in Derbyshire to compete with the best. Well done to all athletes representing the County and to all Team Managers and Officials. Full results now available.

Well Done Derbyshire........
Pics (sorry not the best quality and no captions)
Proof of how important weather conditions are to an athletes performance was clear, when in comparison to last years Inter-Counties, the near perfect conditions at Moorways Stadium yielded over 100 more graded performances than in the terrible conditions at Lincolnshire 2005.
A beautiful day contributed to many outstanding performances and a very competitive high quality match.
The Under 13 & Under 15 Girls won their age groups with the Under 13 Boys finishing 4th and the Under 15 Boys 3rd.
Yasmin Spencer deservedly won the Under 15 girls Athlete of the Match Field award for her excellent 11.43mt Shot Putt.
I won't attempt to write a report on the Derbyshire team individually as it would be a terrible injustice to what was an excellent 'Team Performance'.
Injuries, illness and general unavailability mean't a massive reshuffle to the team and full credit to all athletes for achieving yet again the runners-up spot. The team pushed Warwickshire all the way and can be very proud of what they achieved for Derbyshire.
Derbyshires Barry Parker organised this event and must be congratulated on staging a first class event. Officials from all Counties, despite being low on numbers due to a clash of events, worked extremely hard and managed to keep to the tight schedule. The most overworked people at the event must of been the catering staff and the people at the grading stand.
Thanks to the results team for getting the results out very quickly and efficiently and the announcer for keeping the athletes and spectators well informed.
Derbyshires Team managers Ben and Alastair and their little helpers worked hard and had to make several team changes during the day and ensured all athletes arrived at their events in time.
We hope all the athletes parents have now seen at first hand what an enjoyable and high standard event this is, and are justifiably proud of their children in helping Derbyshire continually improve as an athletics County.
Thank you to everyone for supporting your County.
Next years event will be held at Cudworth, Sth Yorkshire.
